Frequency of Plastic Surgery Among Brazilian Men

November 1, 2015

Most men, like most women, dislike the idea of having surgery. For unspecifiied reasons, however, the number of men who dislike surgery enough to avoid it seems to be going down. At least that seems to be true in Brazil.

In a study published this morning, the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery reported that the number of plastic surgery procedures among Brazilian men went up four fold in the period between 2009 and 2014. In a followup article, the number was used to calculate the frequency of plastic surgery among men in Brazil: 30 per hour. The Director of the BSPS added that plastic surgery is generally popular in Brazil, which he cites as a leader in this branch of surgery.

According to the study, breast reduction was the most popular plastics procedure, most of which are done for adolescent. Overall, most of the procedures studied were done for men between the ages of 20 and 50. However, the study detected a distinct rise in plastic surgery among older Brazilian men, too.

Surgeo Blog's citation of breast reduction as female specific surgery is wrong. mea culpa.
