The Role of the Partner in Penile Implant Surgery

November 27, 2015

Partners are often deeply involved in decisions about surgery. However, Surgeo routinely hears stories about patients who decide to have penile implant surgery without informing their partners. Is this a good idea?

Dr. Ashley Tapscott of Charlotte, North Carolina specializes in the diagnosis and management of sexual and erectile dysfunction. We asked her how she saw the role of the partner in the decision to have penile implant surgery. She had an unflinching and very clear answer: the partner has to be involved early and often. She has made this principle a tenet of her approach to helping her patient and emphatically asserts that partners like to be invited into the discussion.
